veski and Minister Asher host veski conversation about women in science, research and innovation

veski and Minister Asher hosted a solutions-focused veski conversation about women in science, research and innovation and the challenges they face. Attendees included key representatives of Victorian research institutions, early and mid-career female researchers, and national funding bodies.
veski identified the individuals based on their previous involvement with programs at their own organisations and rather than covering old ground the group used the opportunity to share information and identify the most appropriate way forward.
Several national and international examples were discussed and elements identified that could be replicated in the Victorian environment starting with the investigation of a general gender equality policy.
A number of successful programs already being piloted in organisations across Victoria were also highlighted and in 2014 veski will establish a working group comprised of people who attended this event as well as other key representatives of Victoria’s science and innovation communities.
The group identified the need for women to receive more support in areas such as leadership and personal development and veski will carry out the work to review, develop and introduce a program of activities across Victoria.
Following the meeting, veski has already begun collaborating to implement a range of solutions proposed at the forum and will begin implementing specific activities in 2014 with support from the people who attended the veski conversation and committed to driving these initiatives.
