Brian Cox inspires students from Kyneton

Seven students from Kyneton Secondary College had a unique opportunity to hear about the world of science from Professor Brian Cox OBE at Hamer Hall in August.
The students attended the sold-out 'Evening of Scientific Phenomena' with veski chief executive officer Ms Julia L Page and their teacher as part of veski's inspiring students (& teachers) program.
Cox is a British particle physicist and Royal Society University Research fellow who works on the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, Switzerland. He is also a Professor at the University of Manchester and well known as the presenter of a number of TV programs for the BBC, including Wonders of the Solar System and more recently, Wonders of Life, shown here on ABC.
The event provided a truly inspiring insight into cosmology and particle physics with Brian Cox presenting these subjects in a manner that reached a very broad audience. The students were particuarly inspired through his exceptional ability to explain complex ideas and the way he engages everyone with an excellent understanding of physics.
He was joined by the ABC's Adam Spencer for a series of Q&As where Brian talked about his life; how he became interested in science, his impromptu pop career and his work both as a scientist and a science communicator.
These Q&As were alternated with detailed scientific presentations and some spectacular photography only days old from our Solar System.
All the students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and came away with questions about the science yet to be discovered.
Brian Cox is the author of Wonders of the Solar System, Wonders of the Universe & Wonders of Life (Harper Collins), Why Does E=mc2 (Da Capo) and Quantum Universe (Penguin).
